Uçhisar Güvercinlik Valley

This place, which draws attention with its natural beauty in the Uçhisar district, located on the rocks of Cappadocia, is also home to hundreds of pigeons. Güvercinlik Valley, which takes its name from the pigeons it shelters, has naturally become a home for birds as well. In the first centuries of Cappadocia, pigeons carried messages between the two regions and successfully fulfilled their duties as homing pigeons for a long time. As people found alternative means of communication, the need for pigeons and similar birds decreased and they began to live collectively in one place.

Derinkuyu Underground City

In 1963, a person living in the Derinkuyu district of the Cappadocia region demolished some walls to renovate his house, and later uncovered a tunnel door in his house. Although its exact date cannot be determined, it is known that it was used during the Protohit, Hittite, Roman and Byzantine periods. Today, only 8 floors of this underground city are open to visitors, but in case of excavation, the parts used in the past and filled in later will be open to visitors.

NUMEROUS CHURCHES IN IHLARA CANYON Ihlara Valley, considered among the largest canyons in the world, has been an important religious center since the founding years of Christianity. There are countless churches and historical living spaces in the 14-kilometer valley.

PEOPLE OF THE RETURNING WATER The volcanic layer formed as a result of the eruption of Hasan Mountain centuries ago, natural events and the erosion of the Melendiz Stream formed the Ihlara Valley. This fascinating canyon, whose height can reach 120 meters, starts from Ihlara Town and extends to Selime via Belisırma and Yaprakhisar. Because of the Melendiz River flowing through the canyon, the ancient inhabitants of the region were called "Peristremma", that is, "the people of the returning waters".

Pioneering Christian clergy were educated in the region starting from the 4th century.
